I took these pictures about two years ago. I placed the leaves in a heart shape and then the wind started to shuffle and blow them around so i took a picture each time they moved:) A little ladybug stopped by! Quite the model I must say hahaha!

Second Week of the New Year

The New Year started off in a strange way for me! When I was very young I was sick with colds or some kind of virus at Christmas. I remember when it was almost Christmastime, I would start asking Mom over and over, "Will I get sick?" I haven't been sick on Christmas for a long time, but immediately after this Christmas, a "common" cold hit me. "Common!" Nothing common about this! I had to cancel the showcase with Andrew Velez, but our friend Ken Cooper jumped right in and took my place. Thanks, Ken! I know you guys did a great show. You are the greatest!

So, another week goes by and I took all sorts of stuff for sore throat, congestion... you know the drill. My friend Dylan Davis had his debut show on the first Friday of the New Year, and had asked me to do a couple of songs. My throat was still giving me some problem but I didn't want to let him down on his first show. I got through "Poison and Wine" with Matt Morrow and later did "Skinny Love," a new cover I recently started singing. Got through that with good results and the audience seemed to like it. Saturday morning, laryngitis ... speechless. The voice is getting better and I feel much better. I'm hitting the books really hard right now and waiting for my throat to heal. I have lots of new songs to do and anxious to get back to the studio to finish some songs.

The Last Week of 2011!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I did! This is the last week in 2011. Although I'm looking forward to a lot of new, exciting things in 2012, this last week will be a busy one for me... but fun. I'm getting ready for another great show with Andrew Velez at the Coffee Tree Books & Brew ~ Friday, the 30th at 7:00. Come and join us for the last show of what was a wonderful year for me! It will be lots of fun with new covers and some old favorites.

Another Overdue Update!

I have been so blessed with a bunch of new and exciting things lately. I think I mentioned some time ago about becoming a member of the Tennessee Country & Gospel Music Association. What an awesome group with an awesome President, Alisa Asbury. She is a busy lady, a talented singer and entertainer herself, owner of Sweet Southern Entertainment and has taken on the job of being President of both Georgia and Tennessee Chapters. She put together a great Music Awards Show on December 3rd for both TCGMA and GCGMA chapters in Dalton, Georgia. What a show! What a competition! What an honor to be a part of this organization of talented singers!

It was a festive night and Miss Lisa outdid herself with the decorations, displays and her selection of the "headliner" to entertain after the awards.

The week was finished off with a great showcase Friday evening with my fellow songwriter, Matt Morrow at the Coffee Tree, then of course back to "the Tree" on Saturday night for open mic to sing and hang out with my friends.

It was a pleasure and lots of fun to sing for the "One Brick At A Time" benefit last Saturday (October 22nd) at Gurley's Soggy Bottom Music Barn in Somerville, Alabama. The songwriters from our area have had several benefits to help those who suffered loss and damage during the April 27th tornados that ripped through several areas of Alabama that day. "Songwriters4Survivors" consider this an on-going project!

I was honored to be interviewed by WAAY-TV Channel 31 at the concert. I am homeschooled and not a member of a band, but my music and guitar mean so much to me. I can only imagine how those students at Phil Campbell feel.

MaryJustice Lucas is a young singer/songwriter who can't imagine what it would be like to lose her guitar.

"It's like losing a friend when you are close to something like that,” said MaryJustice Lucas.

She says music is everything to her.

That is why Lucas is singing at the "One Brick at a time" concert and auction, to help raise money for the Phil Campbell High School Band Program...a program that lost everything in the April tornados.

“I can't imagine what it would be like to lose all that. Just to be a part of something to help them get it all back is awesome,” said Lucas.

Joel Gurley decided to hold the event at his barn, called: Gurley's Soggy Bottom Music Barn.

"The songwriters have been coming here and they were looking for a place to have (the event). All the other places wanted to change them so much they couldn't make anything, so we're having it free over here. We’re all working together to try and help the school,” said Gurley.

The concert featured singers and songwriters who are part of the Nashville Songwriters Association.

It lasted for 11:00am until 5:30 in the evening.

And dozens showed up for food, fun and especially the music.

Update, Update, Update!

I can't believe it's been over a month since I updated this blog. I've been busy with a lot of stuff, things, happenings! All good for which I am very thankful. The Lord keeps blessing me in so many ways. As mentioned previously, we had a wonderful time in San Francisco. A trip I'll always remember. The showcase with Matt Morrow in Florence was great. First time I've done a show "unplugged" ... something happened and the sound system did not make it, but Matt and I did okay. The Rivertown Coffee Company has a small room that opens into the larger room and the acoustics were great.

The photo shoot in Nashville was so much fun. The crew from The Arts Institute of Tennessee-Nashville and the location were awesome! My thanks to Bryce Wallace, Director and Tyler Bicknell, Photographer.

Then, a couple of weeks later I had a session with Producer John Inglese to work arrangements for some of my songs. Great learning experience! And, another work session on a cover song for a video... can't wait to shoot the video! Then, a few days later. went to the studio to record three of my songs. One wonders how such awesome things happen ... I ran into my friends, The Boyle Brothers, again by chance at the Commodore and had a good time catching up with what's happening with them.

They were gracious enough to go into the parking lot and give my friends, Karen, GraceE, and me a mini-concert before we played for open mic! Thanks guys! I love running into you unexpectedly in Nashville.

Over Labor Day week-end, we made a trip to Nashville to the Palace to meet my long-time MySpace friends, Sam and Luke.

They were performing at Mike Jenning's Nashville Spotlight Show on Sunday. It was so great meeting them after three years of messaging via MySpace and ReverbNation! We never seemed to be in Nashville at the same time! Sam and Luke are from Canada and recently moved to Nashville.

I wasn't booked for Mike's show this year, but Mike told me to warm up my guitar and get ready to sing three or four songs. I was honored to be included in the show. Thank you, Mike Jennings! We visited with other friends who were playing that day and then headed out to the Commodore Grill for open mic with Debi Champion. Ms. Champion booked me for a songwriter's round in October ... Looking forward to that and will update on that later.

Coming up this Saturday, August 6th, I'm opening the show for a Matt Morrow concert to kick off his new "Burlap and Gold" album release. I'll sing several of my originals and some new cover songs. Later, I'll join Matt to sing a couple of his songs we recorded together for "Burlap and Gold". The show will start at 8:00 PM so come join us at the Rivertown Coffee Company, 117 Seminary Street, Florence, Alabama. Singing with Matt is always a lot of fun.

We just got back from a wonderful week in San Francisco. I'll tell you about that later and post some photos. Right now, I'm trying to catch my breath and get back into a normal routine ... hey, what's normal?!!

Hey, Blogger Buddies! I've had a busy few weeks and loving every minute of it. The July 2nd show at The Flying Monkey with Nathan Johnson was a lot of fun. I did several opening songs and later joined Nathan and his band for a duet of John Mayer's "Half of My Heart" one of my favorite songs!

The sky was gray all day on July 7th and the weather report kept saying 40% chance of thunderstorms, 50%, 70% as the day went by. We headed out to Madison and rain started hitting the windshield just as we got to the Madison City limits! But, it cleared up ... there was a pleasant breeze and all was wonderful. Thank you Lord! I had a great time in the Songwriters Round at the Madison Gazebo with Chapman James and John Tinger. What an honor to be selected to sing with these two at the Gazebo. Thank you, Madison Arts Council!

Friday, June 24th, I will open a show for my friend, Andrew Velez at the Coffee Tree Books & Brew in Huntsville, Alabama. The show will run from 7 - 9. A couple of months ago, Andrew asked me to sing a duet with him for his sister's wedding. That was our first time to sing together. Our styles are totally different but when we sing together we ROCK! If I do say so myself :) A few weeks ago we sang together at the Commodore in Nashville and again this past Sunday for a tornado relief concert in Decatur, Alabama. Andrew, a native of Huntsville lives in Nashville where he performs regularly with his band. I know you'll like what you hear, so drop by if you are in the area Friday night. I would love to meet you!

Saturday, June 25th, I will join several other songwriters for a tornado benefit concert in Athens, Alabama. The concert starts at Noon and will run until 8:00 or later! This is an event to raise money to rebuild homes destroyed by the April 27th tornadoes. This is a pay-to-play concert with each songwriter paying $25.00 per song! This will be a fun-filled day with food vendors, T-shirts, give-aways, and many genres of music. So come on out to the Railroad Bazaar Parking Lot Stage for a great show. There is a $5.00 admission with children 12 and under FREE.

Family Jam 2011 - Tornado Relief Benefit

Two-Day Fam Jam 2011!
June 18th and 19th

On April 27, 2011, tornadoes ripped through large areas of Alabama leaving large paths of destruction and people without homes in Northern Alabama and the Tennessee Valley. Neighbors have joined hands to raise money to benefit those left homeless or with extensive damage to their homes. Many were uninsured. Would you come and join us to help raise money for this worthy cause?

The Family Jam 2011 promises to be a fun-filled week-end. It is being held in conjunction with the Bassmaster Elite Series which is wrapping up its 2011 season on Wheeler Lake with its Dixie Duel competition June 16^th-19^th. The Family Jam Music Fest offers two days of ongoing live entertainment, children’s activities and games, and topped off with a spectacular fireworks show.

There is no charge for this event, but donations will be accepted throughout the week-end. I will be joined by my friends, Matt Morrow and Andrew Velez on Sunday, June 19 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. This will be a lot of fun, you will be entertained and have the opportunity to support a worthy cause. Admission is $20.00 for this annual benefit and silent auction. The proceeds provide scholarships to the Hartselle High School Senior Choral Students in memory of Emily D. Orr. I'll be joining Jeff Whitlow, Allen Watkins, Robin Stewart, Chapman James, Ted Whittington, Jeff Lemmond with State Representative Ed Henry. This will be a GREAT show! ***AND, great for me and my family!!! Our cousin, Dr. Bob Cockrell from Greensboro, NC, is coming to the show on his way to Birmingham for a get-together with his siblings! Haven't seen him in a few years. He gave me my first guitar that got me started playing for myself! Woo-Hoo!

More events coming up in June that I'll tell you about in a few days, but I wanted to tell you about last Sunday at The Coffee Tree Books & Brew. Kitty and Tom have been generous to many over the past several years. "The Tree" suffered loss during the April 27th tornadoes and five day black-out. We decided it was time to give a little back!! The Coffee Tree was packed with singers, songwriters, patrons, fans ... Ken Dupree, Wednesday Songwriters Host, and Wayne Hemmerly, Saturday Night Open Mic Host were joined by our now Official Auctioneer, Patsy Trigg! There was continuous music with auction breaks which were as entertaining as the music! And of course being the sweet generous people they are, the Coffee Tree staff gave up their one day off to serve food. Thanks to all who came out to support this event. Proceeds from the door and the auction almost hit $2,000.00. I hope we do this again .... Soon!

Last night was an awesome show at Rhodes Ferry Park, Decatur, AL with Cristina Lynn and friends. I was honored to be invited to perform for this event along with the Steve Owen and his Double Shot band, Russ and his Dolbro! Cristina Lynn invited mandolin player John Boyer. John, an electrician from Indianapolis who was sent down to help with getting his company back on line after the tornadoes. Thanks, John! Jeff Whitlow made a surprise visit and joined us on stage! What a beautiful setting by the Tennessee River! What a nice crowd! The weather was perfect.

VHCC Songwriter’s Showcase

It was an honor to be invited by host Billy Ward to open the second Songwriter’s Showcase at Valley Hill Country Club last Friday (April 1, 2011). I thoroughly enjoyed performing there. The set-up was comfortable and warm ... a relaxing and intimate environment for performers and the audience.

Thank you, Ms. Paula Dickson, for the great introduction. You and the country club staff and members made me feel very special.

I like the way Billy sat on the stage while I sang... just added that down-home friendly touch. Great job, Billy (He told me to call him Billy!) ... terrific night with some great entertainment!

After finishing, my set I joined my family at our table and sat back to enjoy the rest of the show featuring of course, Billy Ward. His other guests were Chapman James, Cristina Lynn and Robin Stewart. Did I say it was a terrific night with some awesome entertainment?

Thanks to all the local songwriters for coming out to support the show. We are family!

The Valley Hill Country Club is a wonderful venue. The sound system was awesome. I look forward to other shows there.

We had a great time ... here's a sample of our March 4th showcase at the Coffee Tree Books & Brew. It was awesome to play to a standing room only crowd. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us. I hope you enjoyed the show as much as Matt and I did. This was our first full showcase together "in the round" and will not be the last!

Today, I woke up around 4 a.m. to get ready for the drive to Athens to sing on the Cooper & Company show with Jamie and Gloria Cooper!!:) It was soooo much fun! Thank you Mr. Cooper for hitting me with a snowball!! Thanks to Mrs. Cooper for being such a fabulous hostess! Everyone there was so nice, and I look forward to doing this again!!

Opening Song "Your Love Is Where I'm Found"

First question Mr. Cooper asked me, as we were chatting before the show, "Are you an Alabama fan?" Really, how do you get off on the right foot with a tried and true Bama fan, by telling him you are an Auburn fan?! So, I could have lied...but, I would rather him remember me as an Auburn fan, than a lying Auburn fan!! On the set, two rugs meet in the midde of the room...one has the Auburn logo, and the other has the Alabama logo......for the first song, Mr. Cooper states that I have to stand on the Auburn rug......
When I came back to the mic for the second song, I noticed the mic had been moved, and there I was ...... "a house divided".....one foot on the Auburn rug and on on the Alabama rug ! So, I had to ask, "Mr. Cooper, are you trying to convert me?" Too funny......you have to watch him....he is quick, and sly......

Remember how I said Mr. Cooper was quick and sly ? He hit about 4 people in the studio with snow balls, including his wife, and me, while we were live ... on camera !!!!

What a whirlwind ... not a second wasted ... intros, guests being interviewed, quick breaks, songs sung, and lots of laughs ... met some really nice people, a Chic-fil-A rep, a very dapper dentist, a cameraman/musician named Corey, an anger management counselor, and a gentleman named Frank, who not only delivers a very accurate weather forecast, but bakes a mean chess pie!

What's Happening!

Hey, everybody! Just a quick note to let you know what's happening. We drove to Nashville on January 8th and were greeted by snow flurries when we hit the city limits! We had a busy day filming the Nashville Spotlight Valentine Show.

Our producer, Mike Jennings, does an awesome job of putting the shows together. It's a great learning experience. We taped two Valentine Shows and two regular shows. Nashville Spotlight airs on Nashville Cable TV Channel 19 weekly on Wednesday 8:30 PM, Thursday 2:30 PM, Friday 5:00 PM and Sunday 5:30 PM.

We finished taping by 5:30, jumped in the car and headed back to Huntsville. No more snow flurries! But, it was cold ... Whew! We got back in Huntsville in time for me to sing in the last round of open mic at the Coffee Tree .... a fun place to be on Saturday nights ... then on for some hot wings with some fellow performing songwriters ... and up early on Sunday morning for church and Sunday school.

Sunday night it started snowing ... covering EVERYTHING within two hours. Okay, everybody got a lot of snow days, but since I home school it was pretty much business as usual for me. I did miss out on Driver's Education for a week. Did I mention that I'm learning to drive?!! Woo-hoo!

So, finally the snow melted and back to business ... oh, yeah ... and driving :) And ... coming up January 21st, Friday morning ... very, very early Friday morning, I'll be with Cooper & Company on WTZT-TV in Athens, Alabama. Known as ZTV-11, this station focuses on local people and places in the Tennessee Valley. This live performance broadcasts on cable television and will simulcast on the internet. I'm excited about being invited to sing on the show ... thanks to my friend, George Wells, who set up everything.

Saturday, January 22nd, I'm heading back to Nashville for another awesome Nashville Spotlight Mini-Showcase at the "World Famous" Nashville Palace. The show starts at Noon and will run until 6:00 PM. If you are in the area, drop in for the show. I would love to meet you! Meanwhile, check out my MySpace.

(Our weatherman is predicting more snow in the next few days...brrrr!)

Our Christmas celebration was darkened by the death of my friend, Stan Moore. Stan passed away on December 17, the date of my last post to this blog! His sudden death was a shock to those of us who knew and loved him. An experienced singer and songwriter, Stan was always encouraging of me. He always had a smile and a kind word. Stan was a true "Southern Gentleman" in every sense of the word.

Hey Everyone!

Hope all is well! Grandmother and I spent the day baking cookies! It was a lot of fun!!! And tasty, LOL! I just want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and let's all remember why we are celebrating. It's JESUS' Birthday!! What a wonderful celebration! And, for all you little ones, I have to say I am pretty excited about Santa too!! I have a very small wish list this year. I have come to realize there is really nothing I need. I have beautiful friends and family and that’s what is important.

The Boy With No Fear

I once knew a boy who loved adventure and excitement. We met at the beach during the summer just after my 17^th birthday. He was always living on the edge. Nothing seemed to shake his nerves the slightest bit. He loved those rides at fairs. You know the ones with all the flips and loops. He wanted to do anything that got his adrenaline pumping. He would hike, hunt, and run. He was so energetic and carefree. He was a hard worker, too. Give him a job that had a lot of physical labor and he would go above and beyond your expectations. He liked fast cars and long roads so he could just drive for miles and miles. He had a brave spirit and a kind heart, but he seemed guarded, trusting only himself. Then I came along. That’s when things changed.

His name was Alex. He was 17, tall, dark, and handsome. His body was toned and his skin was golden brown from spending many days in the sun. He had a smile that put the sun to shame. It was so bright and so warm. When he smiled, no matter how you felt, you had to smile back. He had soft, jet black hair that hung wispily over his piercing, greenish blue eyes. I say greenish blue because they changed every time I saw him, kind of like the ocean. Maybe that is why I was so fascinated by his eyes, because the ocean was something I could just stare at all day. He loved the ocean, too. He once tried to convince me to go way out on a boat. He said the waters were even more captivating farther out.

Unlike him, I was afraid of everything. I preferred my feet on the ground and to stay as far away from danger as possible. He especially liked the ocean during a storm. The way the waves crash against the rocks, the way the clouds swirl over the water, the way the color of the water goes from a calm, breathtaking aqua blue to a deep sapphire and emerald mess within minutes. Not even a storm as beautiful as that could compare to the storm of colors in his eyes.

We spent hours each day on the beach walking and talking about things, even though I did do most of the talking. I told him my dreams of being a professional toe shoe dancer and that I wanted to dance in red toe shoes. He said he could tell I was a dancer by the way I carried myself. He said I was graceful and that he believed in me. He told me to never give up on my dreams. He was never one to say a lot, but when he did it blew me away. He could make the simplest words mean so much. He told me about his dreams of living on a boat and traveling the world. He dreamed of spending his days discovering things beneath the water, watching every sunset he could, and falling asleep under the moon and stars.

He made it sound so easy and beautiful, but I knew it would never be. Or maybe that was it. Maybe it would be with him. Maybe it would be everything he said it would be. I envied his open mind about things and his positive thoughts. I had always felt like the world was out to get me and I had put up walls so I could not get hurt. Somehow we both knew we could trust each other. We both were so different, yet so alike. We were like puzzle pieces that were shaped completely different that fit perfectly when put together. He was a good boy. I was a good girl. That is how it was.

I remember the day we were sitting on soft towels in the sand watching the tide roll in and out. The sun was going down, painting the sky in pink and gold. I was drawing in the sand with pieces of drift wood and watching the sand crabs scurry around. He was just sitting there staring at the ocean. I was listening to him hum softly. He was good at singing but he would never admit it. He always hummed the same song. It had a hauntingly beautiful melody. I still hear his voice in my head singing it over and over again.

While I was distracted trying to figure out what he was singing, I had not realized he had stopped humming until I heard him say my name. I looked up and was surprised. He was holding a small box neatly wrapped in pale brown paper. The paper looked worn, like he had been carrying it around with him for quite some time. It was almost like he could never make up his mind to give it to me. He had a sweet sadness in his eyes, but it didn’t give me a good feeling. I asked, “Is everything alright?” He gently smiled, not answering my question and said, “I want you to have this but you have to promise me something,” as he gently placed it in my hand. I said, “Okay…,” probably sounding a little confused. He said, “Promise me you won’t open it until the time is right.” I am sure I made the most puzzled face anyone could imagine. I said, “What? How will I know when the…” He interjected softly, “Please … just promise me you will wait.” The soft, pleading tone in his voice brought tears to my eyes. It caught me off guard for some reason. This whole situation made me want to cry. I had this gnawing feeling deep inside me, telling me there was more to this than he was letting on. Suddenly, I felt sick. I had a terrible feeling that I was going to lose him. I looked away so he could not see my eyes and I blinked away the tears. I looked up at him and said, “I promise,” almost in a whisper. It seemed like forever before he replied. I almost thought I had not said it aloud. He said, “Thank you.”

For a long while we sat there in silence. I was gripping the box like my life depended on it while he was lying on his back with his eyes closed. Somehow, I really wanted to know what was going on but then again, I did not want to know a single thing. How is that possible? He slowly opened his eyes, sat up and said, “These past seven weeks have been amazing. Meeting you was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.” For a second, I thought I was dreaming. I pinched myself to make sure I really wasn’t. Yeah, it hurt. I was awake. I felt like an idiot for not saying anything. He continued, “I feel like I’ve known you all my life, even though I haven’t. That’s the only way I can describe it. You are a beautiful person inside and out. Never let anyone tell you differently. I never want to lose you. You mean the world to me and I love you more than I ever thought I could love anything.” I was speechless. Again, I felt like an idiot for not saying anything. I finally managed to catch my breath. I said, “You’re beautiful. I don’t want to lose you either. I love you so much. No words could even come close to telling you how much I love you.” I felt silly. That did not go as smoothly as I had planned. The gentle smile he wore let me know he knew what I meant. He would not have had me say it any other way. He gently kissed me. The kiss was sweet and sincere, and he held me in his arms. Right then and there I knew I wanted this to last forever.

The next morning I woke up to pouring rain, thunder that made the room shake, and lightening so bright it hurt my eyes. I grabbed my raincoat and stepped out the front door of the beach house. I looked out across the water. The waves were angrily crashing and rolling onto shore. Suddenly, I caught a glimpse of something against the rocks. It was small fishing boat. It was the boat Alex worked on. It was the boat that he said he was going out on this morning. I felt myself trying to fight the thought of Alex being hurt, or worse. I started running to the shore. The rain was hard, stinging my skin. I felt like I could not run fast enough. My heart was pounding so hard I thought it would beat out of my chest. I reached the shore. I saw EMT’s and a crowd all huddled around something. I was not going to let myself believe it was him until I saw for myself. I was begging,” God, please don’t let it be him. Please don’t let it be him. Please, please, please.” If it was Alex, I was not going to be angry at God, but He was the only one I could even think of talking to. I would be devastated. I would feel like I was losing part of me. I pushed through the crowd. Time felt like it had stopped. There he was. The boy who was mysterious … the boy with no fear, kind, brave, beautiful … the boy who loved me … the boy I loved, my boy, my Alex. He was cut up. His clothes shredded. He was broken. I fell to my knees and scooped him into my arms. Gently smiling, he opened his eyes. Tears poured down both of our faces. Paramedics tried to drag me away, but I wouldn’t let them. In a choppy, weak voice he told them to let me stay. They backed away, knowing he was not going to live because he was bleeding internally. Barely audible, he said, “I love you, forever and always.” I said, “I love you, too.” Struggling through the tears I said, “Forever and always.” We gently smiled at each other through the tears. I did not take my eyes off of him as I knew this would be the last time I would see his smile. This would be the last time I would see his beautiful eyes and the last time I would hold him. His eyes gently closed and I felt him let go. He was gone.

I barely got back on my feet. I stumbled through the crowd. Faces of strangers were staring at me. They all had sympathetic eyes. I slowly got back to the house. I went into my room and collapsed on my bed. Crying so hard, I felt like I would die. I could not seem to get enough air. Sometimes I would not even make a sound. I rolled around and screamed and yelled and soaked my pillow in tears. This went on for hours. Suddenly, I felt something hard beneath my pillow. I reached under it to sling whatever it was across the room when I saw it was the little brown box. The little brown box Alex had given me. I slowly sat up and my tears fell on the already worn paper making it even thinner. I slowly lifted the paper away, as if it was wrapped in flower petals and I was not allowed to tear a single one. I removed the paper and opened a pale blue box. Inside was a black music box made to look like a piano. As I opened the music box it started playing a beautiful song, one I knew but couldn’t remember why it was familiar. Then it hit me! It was the song he hummed all the time. It was beautiful. I realized there was a heart shaped locket lying on the red velvet interior of the music box. It was silver. “I will love you, forever and always” was engraved on it. I felt weak. I opened the locket and inside was a picture of us on the beach. He had taken it with his camera when we first met. I could see his beautiful eyes and warm smile once again. You could tell in the picture that we were happy. We were happy together. I closed my eyes and thanked God. I needed this more than anything right now.

I opened my eyes, realizing that I will see him again one day on the golden shores of heaven. I clasped the locket around my neck. I have never taken it off. Alex would have wanted me to move on and I have, but I will never forget my boy with no fear.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND NASHVILLE!

It was awesome! I am truly blessed! The week-end was wonderful. The weather was wonderful! I had decided at the last minute to enter a singing competition on Saturday morning before going to the Music City USA Labor Day Weekend Showcase.

The competition, sponsored by Susan Gabrielle, was at John A's Restaurant. Susan was amazing as she registered new arrivals, gave critiques and juggled the schedule to get people in and out in time for their Nashville Spotlight performances all during the day.

This is a video of my competition. "All I See" is one of my newer songs.

Since songwriting is "my thing" I haven't had a lot of time to learn "covers" and usually just sing my songs or those written by my songwriting friends. In this competition it was singing only. Original songs were permitted but didn't get you any extra points. I liked the way the judges gave you a mini critique right on the spot. That was different. I finished and hurried on to the Palace to listen to friends before my set started. The day whizzed by and I didn't give the competition much thought. Susan had said she would call cell phones if you won. We didn't get a call and thought, "Oh well, it was good experience!" We had given her three cell phone numbers! We got back to the hotel and Grandmother booted up the laptop and went to Susan's website.

I won 2nd place!!!!! I was in the shower and my friend, Candace, came "bustin'" through the door screaming "you won 2nd place, you won 2nd place!" I thought I was hearing things!

Second place is okay with me! Five hours of recording studio time with Jonell Polansky at DaCapo Music! Awesome! Valuable! WOW! Also, a promotional package from Capacity Productions Myspace division. Another awesome, valuable prize!

My God is an Awesome God!

Nashville Spotlight – Labor Day!

Hey, all my blogger buddies! If you are in the Nashville area over Labor Day week-end, stop by the World Famous Nashville Palace at 2611 McGavock Pike, for a great two day show. The show will run from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM on both days.

My set will be from about 2:15 – 5:30 on Saturday, the 4th and from 2:15 – 5:30 on Sunday, the 5th.

This is always a great show with talented kids of all ages. Our producer Mike Jennings and his staff do an outstanding job!

The Last Few Weeks!

Hi, everybody! It’s been almost a month since I last posted. Things have been busy…. but a good kind of busy.

I visited my grandfather, “C” in Morris, Alabama, for a few days

…. and had a great time with my young cousins, Amanda and Abby … then hopped on down to Gardendale to visit my cousin Tiffany. While on the way back to Huntsville, we were invited (Aren't cell phones great?) by the Robinsons to stop off at Addison, Alabama, for an evening of Karaoke. What fun!

Last fall while preparing for iPOP!, we met Ethan (iAct!) and his mom Cathy Robinson and Aly, a young actress, singer/songwriter from Birmingham. Mom and I had a great time with them in Los Angeles at iPOP! and have stayed in touch. Email, cell phones and Face Book keep long-distance friendships together. Isn’t that awesome!

Last week, Cathy invited Aly and me for a visit to their farm.

I love the country….I love horses!

It was a fun time and I met some new friends.

Last Several Days! Whew!

Hi to my blogger friends! I feel like I was caught up in a whirlwind over the past several days, but it was an awesome time.

Had a great time at the Coffee Tree with our band, "A Band Named Sue" for our premier performance! It was fun as you can see in this video. Visit ABNS's channel on YouTube.

Then the Summer Concert Series in Guntersville was beautiful. Thanks everyone for coming out on such a hot night. I was so great looking out on the lake and singing for everyone. This was my first solo concert...however, my friend Doug Budzak took care of the sound and accompanied my on guitar on three songs. Thanks, Doug! By-the-way, Doug is leader of "A Band Named Sue" and he's great!

Then I played with some of the North Alabama Songwriters at the Madison Gazebo. It was fun and of course last year the train went by blowing it's horn while I was doing one of my songs....this year several ambulances or police cars when flying down the street with sirens screaming...right in the middle of one of my songs! Go figure... I knew, just my luck! LOL!

I dropped in at the Coffee Tree last Saturday night for open mic and met some talented kids my age. It's always fun to meet people my age who love music.

I went back for Songwriters Open Mic at the Coffee Tree tonight and met even more new songwriters my age. Lots of young folks writing now! The place was packed!

My Uncle Michael is a lot of fun....full of nonsense and makes me laugh, but WOW! He's a tough Algebra tutor! Thanks, Uncle Michael!

Hey, I need your prayers and good wishes this week-end. I'll be competing in the MOVA Songwriting Competition in Guntersville, Alabama. I've looked forward to this for several months. It got cancelled in April due to bad weather and was rescheduled for July 4th.

And, there's more coming up soon that I'll tell you about later.

So, I stepped outside my house this morning and took in the bright, brilliant, blue color of the sky. I gazed at the leaves on the trees starting to turn green, I listened to the sweet symphony of the birds singing, I felt the warm sun on my face. I recalled all of the wonderful things that have happened to me in the past and the present and even my struggles that, at the time I thought I would never get through, but did. I pictured my family and all my amazing friends, I thought about my singing, songwriting, and love for music, I thought about my kitty cats:) I thought about how blessed I am....and I know you are reading this in a good bit of sentences, but all of this rushed into my thoughts in a matter of seconds, basically from the time I stepped out of my back door and into our car, which is about 3 feet. Isn’t that amazing too? How our brains work? And, then I thought, I know it's hard to comprehend, and some people choose not to believe it, but I can't help but look around and look back on my life and think, "How could there not be God? Jesus? The Holy Spirit? All three different but the same:)"... isn’t that amazing , and beautiful? I mean God the creator, Jesus His son, the one who died for all of our sins, and in Jesus' name we pray to God, and the Holy Spirit which lives inside us, when you accept Jesus into your heart. Now, isn’t that BEAUTIFUL?! I can’t help but be excited about just typing it!!! He truly is amazing, all powerful, beginning and end, light of the world, unfailing love, Holy Father, my best friend, savior, forgiving, all knowing, beautiful....and He is here, forever and always, and that makes me smile.

Homegrown Talent Show Panoply 2010

Hey to all my blogger friends! Still busy with school, guitar lessons and writing songs. Our songwriting competition, MOVA at the Panoply of Arts Festival, was cancelled Saturday because the weather was so bad. I was disappointed, but it will be rescheduled.... soon I hope. I entered three of my new songs and am anxious to be critiqued by the judges.

These are pictures made at Bridge Street during and after auditions for Homegrown Talent competition where I was selected to compete at Panoply. The show was held on Sunday in beautiful weather! Imagine Saturday there were tornados all over the place. I know it was bad for a lot of people and am so thankful we did not have severe damage here.

The competition was fun and as usual I got to see some old friends and meet some new ones! I competed in the Young Adult Division (15 - 20 year olds). Yeah, I was the youngest! Homegrown Talent Auditions

Last Saturday, April 10th, I auditioned for the Homegrown Talent Competition that will be held during Huntsville's Panoply of Arts Festival on Sunday, April 25th. Out of about 30 contestants, 10 were selected from this audition. Three auditions were held on different days at the beautiful Bridge Street Town Center. Talent entries include singers, dancers, actors, bands and are categorized by age not talent. I compete in the 15 - 20 age group! Send your prayers and good wishes my way!

Panoply is a fun-filled week-end in Huntsville with all kinds of things to see; arts and crafts, entertainment and great food all over Big Springs Park! On Saturday the 24th I will compete in the MOVA Songwriters Competition. Send prayers and good wishes for me for that also.

Hey, blogger friends! Songwriters from North Alabama were invited by James Breedwell to do a showcase at his Nashville Palace Open Mic Series. Mr. Breedwell has a show every night somewhere in Nashville! Our friend, Doug Budzak of Uncle Bethel and Rockit Juice Audio, coordinated the hour and half show. It was a lot of fun. iPOP! in Los Angeles was a wonderful opportunity and an awesome experience! I loved it… every minute. I am so blessed. Where ever my music takes me, I meet the nicest people and make friends… lots of internet friends, too.

Did a little sight-seeing before the work started…

JRP Birmingham Team … we had a great time at several “boot camps” last fall and winter getting ready for iPOP! We competed with each other, and against each other during iPOP!competitions, but still encouraged and supported each other… that’s what friends do….right? Should I tell you now that competition was stiff? Oh ye-ah!

Evelyn (Oneonta, Alabama) and I were paired together during “boot camp” and did an audition situation-scene together. Fun to work with. We made each other laugh and it was hard to stay focused without breaking up!

Hey, everybody! Things have been real crazy and busy over the past weeks. I haven't updated this blog in a while. Christmas was wonderful. I didn't take much of a Christmas break but it was still a lot of fun with family and some friends. Santa Claus brought me a Blackberry! Yea! I can get on the internet, email, etc. with it!

The first semester in my home school program is finished! I'm still loving it and doing great...
I've already been in school more hours than kids in public school... read more books.

RIGHT NOW, I'm in Los Angeles for iPOP!

Thanks to everyone who made this trip possible. It's busy right now with workshops and the auditions have started. I'll try to give some details when I get home. We got here Thursday afternoon and I'll head back home on Wednesday. Please send your prayers and good thoughts my way.

Hey, everybody! It's me! MaryJustice...

I guess you can tell that I haven't updated this blog on a regular basis lately. I'm busy with my home school program. Loving it! I've knocked out the English course for the whole year and am into World History. I have time to work on writing songs, learning guitar and keyboard and so many things now that I didn't have time for in public school. I have read more books in the past couple of months than I had time for in a whole year of public school. My course curriculum is college preparatory. Have I mentioned that I am enrolled in two home school programs? I know it sounds crazy but that's the way it has to work. Did I already say, "I'm loving it?"

iPOP! 2010, Los Angeles in January. For the past few months we've made trips to iPOP! Boot Camp in preparation for the week-long convention. It will be a full five days of seminars, auditions, etc. with a schedule from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and possibly later. Please wish me good luck! I'm competing in acting, singing and TV commercial categories. Guess you can tell I'm excited. I've met some great people and looking forward to meeting more at iPOP!

Hey, come on by the Coffee Tree on December 4th. Uncle Bethel has invited me to perform with them and Ken Cooper for another great showcase. Won an invitation to the iPOP! Convention in Los Angeles in January... so I'm working on that and seeking sponsors to help fund my trip. I'm excited! This will be five days of competition and auditions for TV and Movie Industry Scouts. I do not believe in LUCK but I do believe in PRAYER ... I could use some help with this also! There was a Preparation meeting in Birmingham today and I met some nice kids ... got a list of songs and acting monologues for auditioning in LA. California here I come!

The latest Nashville Spotlight Showcase at The Nashville Palace was last week and I had a awesome time performing with a BUNCH of great, talented kids. Thanks for your hard work on the showcase, Mike. It was great seeing my friends and making new ones.

Coming up Friday, September 18, I go to Nashville to NSAI for a critique of three songs I have written. Please PRAY for a good outcome on this! These critiques can be rough on the ego! THEN....we drive back to Huntsville in time to join Uncle Bethel, and Ken Cooper for a Showcase at the Coffee Tree Books & Brew. I know this will be a great show. I've done a showcase with Ken but this will be the first time to team with Uncle Bethel.

The showcase was June 10 and Mike Jennings calls it the longest running show of the County Music Festival. It ran 14 1/2 hours with continuous entertainment by a bunch of great kids. "Live, Laugh, Love"

I always liked this phrase and one day after seeing it on a sign somewhere, the words just kept going through my head and the lyrics and melody started forming. It's just about life will bring you down, but you can get right back up! I was so excited to win first place in "pop" with this song last year at the 2008 MOVA Songwriters Competition at the Will Rogers Festival in Guntersville. The festival was fun and I met new friends at the competition.

"Not That Far"

My first thought about this song was, it's going to end happily. I was so tired of writing heart broken songs. Although, there is a little bit of sadness, I wanted a happy ending. This song is about being lonely, waiting for someone who has been away for a while...maybe in the military...being afraid they will forget you or almost losing hope that you will see them again. So for the Troops, "Thank you!"

"Tonight"

I wrote this song about a year ago and although I did not have a boyfriend, this boy broke my heart! No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get him off my mind. After being so sweet to me later he did not even look my way. I took a deep breath and walked up to him in the hallway. I asked him what was going on and he said, "Nothing," then walked away. My next class was choir and I should have been excited. My best friend could tell something was wrong. I was tearing up while telling her what had happened. I told her my heart felt like it had dropped a 1,000 feet. She gave me a hug and let me cry and said "I know you're upset, but it sounds like a song."

"Leave It That Way"

This was written after my grandmother and I were talking about relationships that fall through. Some one who is very close to me was with some one for along time. They had so many plans, but something went wrong and I guess you could say they fell out of love. So then, anytime she would hear his name she'd get so mad. I know that when your heart is broken, it takes a long time to heal. Maybe you'll always feel an empty space. All I know is that you will get past the pain someday. Think about the special times you had with that person rather than the bad.

"Day By Day"

I was having a terrible day at school. I hit my head on the locker above me; tripped up the stairs and just felt like giving up. So, in the middle of a game of dodgeball in P.E. on day, this song "just came to me!" "Day By Day" won first place in "pop" at the 2009 MOVA Songwriters Competition at Panoply. That was a great day and I met more new friends and had fun with friends at Panoply.

"Things Have Changed"

This song is about my heart being broken. The guy seemed really sweet at first and then all of a sudden he was completely different. This was written about a year ago so obviously I didn’t have a boyfriend, yet I still ended up with a broken heart. What are the odds?!

"Are We Just Friends" was written by Ken Cooper. It was an honor when he asked me to sing it! Ken and I have been singing it for several months at The Coffee Tree...Ken on guitar and me at the mic. It has always been a big hit there. Ken recently arranged for me to go to Rockit Juice Audio to sing by the AWESOME arrangement by Uncle Bethel! WOW it really rocks now. I sang "Are We Just Friends" by the new track recently at The Coffee Tree...it went over great, but Ken and I did it acoustically for old time's sake.

"I'll Cheat" is a fun song written by Lisa Carr of Uncle Bethel. Visit Uncle Bethel's myspace and listen to Lisa's version...she is an awesome singer. I was so excited when she asked me several months ago if I would sing it. We sort of tweaked the lyrics a little for me. It was a big hit when I sang it at Ken Cooper's Showcase at The Coffee Tree recently. This recording was done at Rockit Juice Audio! AWESOME! Thanks, Uncle Bethel!

NASHVILLE!!! My home away from home...

A couple of weeks ago, I had an amazing time in Nashville!!!! I connected with Nashville Spotlight on MySpace. Mike Jennings, the producer of Nashville Spotlight invited me to the "World Famous" Nashville Palace to perform four of my songs on the Nashville Spotlight Show, the week of the Country Music Awards Fan Fest. There were 58 kids from 9 states performing a show that ran from 11:00 a.m Wednesday 'til 1:30 a.m Thursday. Awesome! Nashville Spotlight features young singers and performers. Mike has created a "family" at Nashville Spotlight for kids and their parents to learn about the business in a safe environment. He broadcasts four shows a week on a Nashville cable channel with videos of the productions airing on the internet. I sang four of my songs during the show and have been invited back to Nashville on July 11th to work as a Production Assistant. It will be fun to set up the scenes, help organize the show and learn "behind the scenes of producing a television show." I'll get to sing and record for future TV and Internet broadcasts. I look forward to working on a lot of productions! How cool is that?!

Live From The Bluebird Cafe!

Hey, everybody! Saturday, we went to Nashville to The Bluebird Cafe where our friend, Jim Parker, was booked to sing with Janet McLaughlin, Casey Kelly and Leslie Ellis, all published songwriters.
A few weeks ago at Jim's Showcase, Janet had mentioned that I should come up to Nashville and sing with them at The Bluebird Cafe...I wasn't sure she was really serious...but.....we thought it would be fun to go, anyway, and see what all goes on at the Bluebird, as we have not been before, and cheer on our friends, Jim and Janet.

Johnny Okwu, the producer of my CD tracks (soon to be my guitar teacher) was in Nashville buying recording equipment so he said he would drop in also!

Since the show was sold out (meaning tables) and the benches are first-come-first-served, we got to the Cafe an hour early to get in line. We were lucky to be near the front of the line and when the doors opened we were able to get seats in a "park bench"...yep...a park bench...Mom, Grandmother and I had to sit sort of sideways to fit, but we were close to the performers. Jim came in and started moving around the room speaking to people. He gives a big hug to all his friends...we sort of look forward to those hugs! There were a few other people from Huntsville there. The other songwriters arrived and Janet saw us, waved and came over to "our bench." She bent over and whispered to me...I almost stopped breathing.

The most awesome thing happened...(watch this video)...

I'm a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association, International (NSAI) and have entered a couple of songwriting competitions and was honored to win first place two years in a row. But this event was awesome! You have to audition to sing at The Bluebird Cafe. This was a dream come true! I do plan to go to an audition when they advertise the next one. Janet had asked me if I would like to sing acapella since they don't allow tapes or CDs there. I told her that our friend, Johnny, was there and would play if he could borrow a guitar. She said okay. Later Janet told the audience, that when I said I had a friend that could play, she thought it would be someone that sort of strummed along. Everone was impressed with Johnny's playing. I'm excited that he will be my guitar teacher.

As usual the Jim Parker Songwriter Showcase at the VBC Playhouse was awesome. I've made a slide to introduce the songwriters. You'll meet a surprise "guest" who went on stage and stole the show! I hope you enjoy seeing the pictures in the slideshow and enjoy the music on the videos.

Our host, Jim Parker wrote "Chicken Truck" and "I've Got a Feelin" recorded by John Anderson. He's getting pretty famous.... I hope we don't lose him at the Coffee Tree Songwriters Open Mic. Jim encourages all us aspiring songwriters, whether young or old!

Jim Hurst is an awesome guitarist-vocalist and multi-instrumentalist playing bluegrass, country, rock and blues and has joined Claire Lynch and her band.

Claire is a bluegrass musician, singer and songwriter, and has been a creative influence in bluegrass music since her early days with Front Porch. She wrote"Hills of Alabam" recorded by Kathy Mattea and "Some Morning Soon" recorded by Patty Loveless.... and many, many others. Claire used to live "up the road from us" in Hazel Green. She stopped traveling, while raising her ballerina daughter. For a while Claire worked at the ballet shop where I got my ballet gear. She used to fit my ballet and toe shoes for me! How neat is that! Now, she is back on the road doing what she loves, making you cry, making you laugh, telling you about Jesus with her music.

Bill Diluigi opened the Showcase. Bill Dee, as he likes to be called, focuses on Christian Music and has had several songs recorded internationally. He spends a lot of time in Australia. I got his book of songwriting tips. He has been very helpful to me.

Janet McLaughlin wrote"Walk on Water," recorded by Loretta Lynn. Her "My All American Boy," the agility song, was featured during the 2008 USDAA Cynosport World Games.

MOVA 09 at Panoply Arts Festival

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't updated in a long time.

I am excited to let you guys know that I performed at Panoply in the MOVA Songwriter Competition. My song, "Day By Day," won first place in the Pop/Rock category!!!!! I was really nervous while I was waiting to go on stage, but once I got up there I felt great. Lot's of my friends weren't able to make it, but I had their support through the whole thing (ily guys).

Spring Break

I know I am a little late but I have had an awesome break. The breaks we get really help me because sometimes everyone needs to get away from everything and just breathe and relax.
At school I am going 100 miles a minute. 4 mins, between classes, 18 mins to eat lunch, getting all my assignments. By the time I get home I just want to relax. I know some people live more hectic lifestyles. I give them credit because they still keep going =). School Monday!!!!!!

The Showcase was opened by Jesse Smith and Dave Sheppard singing songs co-written by Jesse, Dave Swinford and Pat Gilbreath, fellow NSAI members. Great songs!

Of course Jim Parker was in rare form, as always. His famed "Chicken Truck" was a great hit enjoying a revival having previously been recorded by John Anderson, has just been released on Aaron Tippin's new CD.

Joining Jim in the line up of songwriters were Brian White, Pete Sallis and Karyn Williams. Brian used to be a youth and music minister. In that genre he earned 11 number one songs and two Dove Awards. These days, he is successful in the country market with songs recorded by Trace Adkins, Charley Pride, Neal McCoy and Rodney Atkins. Pete plays guitar, drums and bass guitar and has written songs recorded by George Canyon, Bucky Covington and Rodney Atkins. He is also a Cubs fan, being from Chicago! Pete also fancies himself a comedian. :-) Karyn, one of 14 children, some adopted from around the world, is a songwriter, artist and an author as well as former Miss University of Florida 2000. Her songs reflect a heart for God and a passion for people. The group put on a show that was both outstanding in musical talent as well as full of laughs.

More Birthday!

It usually takes a week or two to celebrate my birthday! Just adds to the fun and excitement. There was more celebration after my earlier post.

I got some money from my grandfather, Carl, and his wife Jane along with a pair of Yellow Box Flip-Flops, money from Grandma Diane and Pop-Pop and more money from my uncle Rick and my cousins Trina and Tiffany and Nick.

From my uncle Marty and aunt Christy, I got a hot pink iPod Shuffle! How cool is that? :-)

My mom even surprised me with gift #3....a bottle of perfume I had been wanting.

I think my birthday is officially over.

But Easter is just around the corner, I love the Easter Bunny !

My Grandmother, my Uncle , and my Mom took me to the Surin of Thailand to celebrate my B-Day! It was really good. My Grandmother gave a movie that I had been wanting sooo bad. I had watched the movie so many times when I was little that I knew it by heart when I took it home and watched it. It was really great to see my Uncle, I haven't gotten to see him as much because of his work hours. My Mom gave me a purity ring that I had wanted. She said it would be a perfect gift for my Birthday. I love it!! She also gave me some perfume that I really love.

I had my birthday party last weekend!!! I invited my closest friends and my awesome cousin. They spent the night Friday night (Girls Night Out). We ate one of our favorite things, black bean soup with sour cream, shredded cheese, salsa, and tortilla chips. For dessert we had cheese cake. Then Saturday morning we all went to see tha JONAS BROTHERS concert in 3D. That was sooooo much fun. We had a blast singing along to their songs. As far as the gifts, my friend Chloe gave me a veeeery cuuuuute sun dress. It is white with blue stripes. Then my other friend Candace gave me a sweet little bracelet that says "LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE" because I wrote a song with that title. My Awesome cousin Tiffany gave me this really cute set with a matching scarf and leg warmers. They are pink, white, grey and very warm! I had a great time and I couldn't ask for a more Amazing family or Awesome friends!!!

Jim Parker's Songwriter's Showcase

I had a blast at Jim Parker' Songwriter's Showcase. I really enjoyed listening to the songwriters. It was so exciting to hear the published songwriters' music, and know that I had heard their songs on the radio. The showcase was held at the VBC. It was pretty much packed. The sweetest thing was that Jim Parker was about to perform and he gave me recoginition for my songwriting. That was so sweet. Then he announced my favorite song of his and sang it. It's called "Walmart Wedding Ring." The name of the songwriters that performed are Will Stults, who opened the show, Walt Ardrige, Lisa Carver, Brad Crisler and of course Jim Parker. It was really cool to meet them. I mean, they are published songwriters. Their songs have been recorded by Tim McGraw, Heartland, Rascal Flats, Brooks and Dunn and more. How cool is that!?!? They have amazing voices themselves. As far as going to another showcase, I can't wait!!! I highly recomend it for everyone !!! Here are some pictures!!!!

Fashion Show

I recently did a fashion show for Dillards at ParkWay Place Mall. I was so nervous, but I had a lot of fun once I got out there. The funny thing was I got in line and Gayle said, "You are first." I was like WHAAATTT!?!?! I thought I was going to get a chance to see some other girls go first. Guess not. It really wasn't that bad going first. Once I was done I got to watch everyone else and relax. We modeled prom dresses, but most of the dresses were short. There were about two or three girls that wore long dresses. I just got my progress report. I have one B and the rest are A's!!!!! I'm working so hard to keep the A in math. I have never been a pro at math, but this year has been going well. I am also preparing for the school talent show. The auditions are in the next two days. I can't wait!

I had an amazing time recording. Basically, we spent the day (10 hours) laying out the music. Johnny Okwu is the producer/engineer. He helped put it all together. Adam Renfro is the guitarist, who helped me put chords to my music. They are both so sweet, extremely talented,and patient. To do a rough recording of a song, I went into a small sound room. I sang into a microphone and listened to the music through earphones. That was really fun! If you are wondering, the recording was done at The Rock. Here are some pictures.

Live At The Coffee Tree

Saturday Night Open Mic at the Coffee Tree was fun. Ken Cooper, one of my friends from NSAI, wrote a really cool song called "Are We Just Friends" and asked me a few months ago if I would sing it. We have performed this song a couple of times at the Coffee Tree but last Saturday night he wanted to test out some new recording equipment and asked me to drop by to sing. I'm sorry the recording is not that great. I was fighting a cold and I have hypoglycemia so I was pretty shaky cause I had not had dinner yet . Still it's always fun to sing there. So check us out. Hey, I'm so sorry I haven't written in a while. I've been really busy working on my music. Soon, you can start hearing some of my music. I am so excited!!!! Everytime I write a song I hear the music in my head, I just don't know how to play an instrument yet. But I will! I am currently working on the guitar and electric keyboard. Adam Renfro has been listening to me sing and playing guitar for me.

Adam Renfro is an amazing guitarist and I'll bet he is just as great on the drums. Thank you, Adam. I am going to a recording studio soon. WOW!!!! Can't Wait!!!

Hey everyone!!! I apologize for not writing. I just started my second semester of 8th grade. It's really hard waking up early again and getting used to having HW. On the up-side it was great to see all my friends!!! I love school, it just gets kind of crazy. Espically when they change the schedules.

I had so much fun at the photoshoot with PAMA yesterday. It was so beautiful outside. Gayle did my make-up, my hair, chose the outfits, and chose the poses. She made it look so easy. Robert is the photographer. He is also Gayle's husband. Amanda helped out too. She is the apprentice. She held up a screen to reflect or keep off light while Robert took pictures.

Gayle did an amazing job. I had fun with the makeup. When I got home I didn't want to take it off. :-) They are all so sweet!!! These are some pics that my Grandmother took with her camera. Sort of behind the scenes I suppose.

Bridge Street

Several months back, I tried out for Panoply's Homegrown Talent Contest.

The audition was right in the middle of Bridge Street Town Centre. I have to admit, I was a little nervous. Once I got up on the small platform, and started singing I was fine. Just weeks before, my Grandmother and Mom had worked so hard to get me a CD to sing my song to.

It was hard for me to sing my song to music because I was used to singing acapella at the Coffee Tree. I had practiced and practiced so much I just knew I was going to sing great. Well, I did great, but my CD stopped right in the middle of my song. I didn't care. I kept going like nothing had gone wrong. Everyone clapped at the end of the song and I was happy. I got to talk to the judges for a minute. They said they really liked my song. They also told me that when the music stopped, they thought it was a dramatic pause. :-) I made it!!! So I got to perform at Panoply.

Saying Hello!!!

Hey!!!!!!

I'm really having fun with this blog. I just added music. These are a few of my favorite songs. I love contemporary christian music, country, and pop.

A few nights ago I woke up really early and this tune popped into my head, then lyrics, then I started writing. That's not unusual for me though. That is typically how I get a new song, or it happens very inconveniently. For example: I wrote a song during dodgeball.

DURING DODGEBALL!!! Can it get any crazier than that? So, while I was writing this song in my head, I get smacked in the face with the dodgeball. Yup...... In the face. That was not fun.

Then I decided since I'm out, go ahead and finish the song. So I did and I'm very pleased with it. I would have loved to have seen the look on my face when I was hit. It took me waaaay off guard. I bet it was quite a show.

Soon, I will be putting my own songs on my blog. I'll tell you the story of each one. I love to tell my inspirations for my songs and then let the listener share with me how it related to them.

Hey, I'm MaryJustice!

This Blog will basically be a journal for me. First, I'll tell you a little bit about myself.
I LOVE music. I am a songwriter and I'm learning guitar and keyboard.
So far it's going well. I will play and sing my own songs and publish and record them.
That will be AWESOME!!

Frequently, I perform my songs at The Coffee Tree Books & Brew for Wednesday Songwriter's Night. Other songwriters have asked me to sing their songs while they play guitar. This is an honor.

I also enjoy photography. My Grandmother and Mom just gave me an amazing camera for Christmas. I am soooo looking forward to taking pictures and videos everywhere I go.
I'll post videos and pictures once I get the hang of this thing.
